The Kemp House

I was taking our son Declan to a birthday party. We drove past this house and there was a little old lady (Lucie McMillan) sitting outside on the driveway in a lawn chair. After dropping Declan off I decided to poke around and check out the neighborhood. I decided if the house was ever on the market we would buy it. Cut to 6 years later, we were looking to move and it was for sale. Our realtor Jack thought we were crazy. He showed us other things that might be more appealing. The kids cried when they saw it. I could not sleep at night thinking about the floor plan, how I would change it, make better use of the space.

After closing we got right to work. Opening up walls, discovering mice nests, wiring that was connected with scotch tape…we had our work cut out for us. It took us 5 years to get it pretty much exactly how we wanted it and then we sold. I still cry.
